Inside Singapore Model Parliament 2026

2 weeks ago, I concluded my time at Singapore Model Parliament 2026, organised by REACH under the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, with support from Parliament.
Having brought the team, “The Heartland Parliament”, together, reflecting the background of the team, it was particularly rewarding to debate alongside them. Under the motion “Securing Singapore’s Resilience in an Age of Disruption”, we explored strengthening Singapore’s economic competitiveness amidst a shifting global order.
We proposed a nuclear skills developmental pilot, examining how Singapore could develop engineering capabilities and pursue commercial opportunities in the emerging sector. The preparation and defense of the proposal challenged us to move beyond an appealing idea: who would engage these services, what public support could reasonably achieve, and when we should reconsider our approach. (Which seems to be a hot topic after that saturday, callout to Singapore International Energy Week)
There was something striking about making that case in the formal setting of Parliament House. The occasion carried a sense of ceremony and responsibility, while the debate demanded clear thinking and the ability to respond under pressure. It was challenging, and an opportunity I was grateful to have.
Beyond the chamber, I valued the depth of the topics discussed, the people I met and the conversations that started before and continued after the debates. Having the experience of Social Night in the National Gallery.
Thank you to Siang Kai Kong, Venkat Alagappan, Teo Zheng Wen, Elynna ⬡ and for being part of this journey, and to REACH Singapore for making it possible. From the application to the final debate, it was a demanding and memorable experience that I’m glad we took on together.
