Today, I had the opportunity to attend Singapore Maritime Week with my friend Tang Yan Sheng as a Singapore Polytechnic student, and it was honestly a very eye opening experience.

Beyond just listening and observing, we were able to speak with, exchange ideas with, and learn directly from a range of relevant industry partners and organisations at the event. These conversations gave me a much clearer sense of how broad and interconnected the maritime industry really is, from regulation and classification to education, innovation, sustainability, and global trade.

It was meaningful to learn more from organisations such as SOLX and China Classification Society, while also exploring possible alternative education and career pathways through conversations with MLA College. We also had the chance to engage with representatives from M.O.L. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, the German Maritime Centre, and ZeaMate, each of which offered different perspectives on the future of maritime and logistics.

One especially interesting takeaway for me was learning more about Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week 2026, which showed how maritime conversations and collaborations are continuing to grow across the region.

As a student, experiences like this remind me that learning goes far beyond the classroom. Being able to engage directly with industry practitioners, ask questions, and hear different viewpoints made the sector feel much more real, dynamic, and full of possibilities.

Grateful for the chance to attend, learn, and connect together. Looking forward to deepening my understanding of the maritime and international trade space even further.
